Cygnus Arioso launches into 2022 with Perth Summer Classics, a two-concert afternoon of chamber music brimming with virtuosity, youth, and musical spontaneity.

Featuring masterworks loved by audiences and performers alike, the program is centred around the sunny optimism of Schubert’s much-loved Octet. Richard Strauss’ Metamorphosen for 23 solo strings tempers this, its dark counterpoint radiating with an elegiac depth. Gershwin’s Lullaby for Strings begins the afternoon with gentle allusions to blues and ragtime, before Lachlan Skipworth’s recent Altiora Peto for trumpet and strings shines with immediacy and rhythmic energy. Featuring Perth’s finest virtuosi and a plethora of emerging stars, Perth Summer Classics promises to be a powerful and uplifting way to start the new year.
