Spirited masterworks

Journey from the 18th to the 21st century on a musical voyage filled with fizzing energy and charm. We welcome our former Assistant Conductor Elena Schwarz back to WASO to conduct.

Stravinsky’s Pulcinella is one of the first great masterpieces of the Neo-Classical era and oozes with style and charm. Then Haydn’s showpiece for the cello brings lively musical conversation between the orchestra and world-renowned soloist Li-Wei Qin. Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony and the high-energy music by Australian composer Holly Harrison deliver subversive irreverence and plenty of humour to round out the program.
