A confession of the soul
The great Finnish master Jean Sibelius was one of the 20th century’s greatest and most innovative symphonists, whose music evokes beauty, mystery and light. Composed in a time of oppression, the stirring melodies and triumphant conclusion of his Second Symphony made it a symbol of freedom and liberation, and Sibelius a national hero. This ever-popular symphony will be simply thrilling in the hands of Finnish conductor Pietari Inkinen.
Fiona Campbell and Sara Macliver are beloved WASO guests and together they premiere a new work by one of Australia’s leading composers, Elena Kats-Chernin.
