WASO | Morning Symphony Series
Noble power and poetry
Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony is an uplifting and powerful testament to the human spirit, one the composer created as a song of praise for a ‘free and happy mankind’ in response to the turmoil of World War II. As one of the greatest melodists of his time, Prokofiev’s Fifth is full of uniquely beautiful moments. A surging upward figure in the basses and cellos leads to a soft, contrasting second theme in the flute and oboe, followed by a skittering figure in the strings. The contrasting powerful movements will be led by conductor Otto Tausk.
