Morning Symphony Series
A great wartime testament to the human spirit.
Premiered in Moscow in 1945, Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony is a powerful wartime testament which the composer described as “a symphony of the greatness of the human spirit, a song of praise of free and happy mankind.” But does the exultant finale represent the conquest of a vanquished enemy or a personal victory over Stalin’s repressive regime?
Decide for yourself as Joshua Weilerstein makes his WASO debut with this powerful symphony.
