Music of the Spheres

Perth Festival & WASO

Bookended by new works about our relationship with the cosmos, this sumptuous feast of fine music celebrates the heavens and sings to the stars above.

Beginning with the stunning voice and presence of Emma Donovan singing a new song of ancient stories, Music of the Spheres weaves together music from across the centuries. Glorious renaissance motets and exquisite arias from Handel, Mahler and Strauss prepare the scene for a centerpiece world premiere of a new operatic work Glimpses & Dialogues from ‘Galileo’ written by long time WA Opera director Richard Mills (Batavia, Song of the Nightingale).

Emma Donovan and Richard Mills are joined by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Samantha Clarke, Shanul Sharma, Samuel Dundas and a choir of Angels and Demons in a concert that encapsulates the expanse of human wonder at the universe around us.

Important update:

Please be advised that Emma Matthews will no longer be able to perform in Music of the Spheres. We are pleased to welcome award-winning soprano Samantha Clarke for this special music event.
