Perth Festival & Musica Viva Australia
Music and visual art come together in a solar system of sound.
More than 70 years after its composition John Cage’s magnum opus, his Sonatas and Interludes, is reimagined as a three-dimensional world. The Cage Project invites you into a dazzling world of transcendental beauty that launches a musical weekend of wonder in Perth Concert Hall.
Australian percussionist, composer and sound artist Matthias Schack-Arnott is known for his unique approach to sound, creating expansive sculptural musical worlds that are beautifully lit and dramatically staged. This commission, initiated by Paul Kildea (Musica Viva Australia), centres on a large-scale mobile of percussion instruments that floats above the piano in a quasi-solar system of rotating sound. Below, acclaimed French pianist Cédric Thibergien performs a work that forever changed the sound and potential of the piano. A spectacular immersive combination of concert and visual art presentation with Cédric’s exquisite playing at its heart.
