WASO’s new Concertmaster debuts with an audience favourite.
Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto is an eloquent work with heart-melting melodies that concludes with a brilliant display of joyful virtuosity. We are thrilled to welcome our new Concertmaster Laurence Jackson to perform this much-loved concerto. The Sixth was the first of Dvořák’s symphonies to be heard outside his home country and immediately established his international reputation. Noble themes, richly-coloured landscapes and the lusty cross-rhythms of Czech folk music unfold in a never-ending stream of inventiveness, testament to a composer at the height of his creativity.
