Day dreams and love songs

WASO’s Principal Flute, Andrew Nicholson breathes life into the story of a mythical faun, drifting into daydream whilst being enchanted by nymphs. This irresistible piece opens with a languorous solo flute melody, reflective of the faun’s sumptuous dreamy state. The ghost of Beethoven is present throughout Mendelssohn’s often-stormy second string quartet, a work that goes far beyond the youthful love song at its heart.
