Epic and intimate – enthralling and human.
The sublime opening of Brahms’ choral masterpiece reveals a place of spiritual solace. Lovingly created after the passing of his mother, Brahms chose to do away with divine judgement, instead offering a radiant and deeply consoling work for those who were left behind. This is not music of mourning, but intensely lyrical music of reflection and contemplation that speaks to the best in all of us.
