The German Requiem is a work of gentle, personal consolation and noble spirituality. Scored for large choir, orchestra and soloists, it soars to splendid romantic expressiveness with achingly beautiful arias. Unlike other oratorios and requiems, the focus of this work is less on fire and brimstone and more on large magnificent choruses meshed with solo arias that express the emotional intensity of the bereaved.
The chorus will be accompanied by an expanded version of the Perth Baroque Orchestra led by master violinist Paul Wright. Soprano icon Sara Macliver will add a sensitivity and exquisite beauty to the performance of this great work, and baritone Christopher Richardson will delight with his expressive & mellifluous singing that’s gained him international recognition.
Deeply moving, profound and powerful, the spaciousness and grandeur of this work place the underlying melancholy of a requiem into a large, reflective non-religious human vision.
