Joy, tragedy and bohemian colour - a concert of contrasts.
Since its triumphant first performance in Boston in 1944, Béla Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra has been a towering classic of twentieth-century orchestral music. A vivacious, irrepressible masterpiece, brimming with orchestral colour and crackling with rhythmic vitality, it is a virtuosic showpiece for both orchestra and conductor. Opening with the bittersweet lyricism of Schubert’s Tragic Symphony, the concert also features WASO’s Principal Horn David Evans as soloist in Mozart’s delightful Fourth Horn Concerto.
