Masters Series
Asher Fisch and WASO continue their journey through Mahler’s symphonies.
Praised for her innate musicality and ‘vocal radiance’, Stefanie Irányi joins WASO in the ethereal finale of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, music that describes a child’s vision of Heaven - “the angelic voices gladden our senses, so that all awaken for joy”. Mahler’s sunniest symphony opens with sleighbells and birdsong, full of expressive orchestral detail and glorious melody.
We open the concert with Schubert’s exquisite Death and the Maiden before traversing the world in Berio’s Folk Songs, a delicately beautiful 11-song cycle featuring melodies from the Appalachians to Azerbaijan.
