2016 China Tour Farewell Concert
As the West Australian Symphony Orchestra prepares for its international tour to Beijing and Shanghai there has been a change to the program that Asher Fisch and WASO will be performing. To showcase the Orchestra's musicianship on a grand scale, they will now perform Mahler’s mighty and deeply personal Fifth Symphony. Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No.5. Egyptian is a glittering and exotic showpiece, a perfect vehicle for the sophisticated charm and brilliance of Jean-Yves Thibaudet.
To open the concert on Friday is Mendelssohn’s Shakespeare inspired Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream. While on Saturday the evening begins with Sculthorpe’s stunning musical portrait of Kakadu.
