 Musical Revolution in Paris

The end of the nineteenth century was a period of dynamism and change around the world, but the cultural hothouse was definitely Paris.  The dreamlike tales of Symbolism in literature, music and art, gave way to Impressionism and, as the new century began, the influence of other cultures and the arrival of jazz was felt in all the arts. Vaporous harmonies in music headed into uncharted compositional territory and political upheaval resonated through all artforms.

In a concert that spans the Impressionistic chords of Debussy to the flashy strains of Ravel, join presenter Alan Dodge and a group of Perth’s finest musicians  including the brilliant chamber ensemble Cygnus Arioso, soprano Prudence Sanders and pianist Mark Coughlan  to explore this magical era when photography rocked the world of painting, the emergence of Picasso, the development of Cubism and the extraordinary Josephine Baker danced across the stage at the Folies Bergere dressed in bananas!

Please note this event was originally titled 'Romance to Revolution'.
