Music on the Terrace
Cygnus Arioso and opera star Rachelle Durkin present songs of the spirit.
The brilliant strings of Cygnus Arioso are joined by opera star Rachelle Durkin and pianist Mark Coughlan to present three works in contrasting musical styles that are united in their glorious evocation of the human spirit.
Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate was written when he was just 17 years old and is an exuberant and uplifting work with dazzling coloratura passages. La Bonne Chanson is a captivating song cycle for soprano, string quartet and piano composed by Gabriel Fauré. This music is full of exquisite melodies and intimate, evocative lyrics that explore themes of love and yearning. Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence reflects his love for Italy, the warmth of the sun, the blue sky and the alfresco lifestyle as an escape from the Russian winter.
