The legendary Sara Macliver is the Queen of Sheba in Perth’s first ever presentation of Handel’s Solomon, gracing the performance with a voice described by Conductor Joseph Nolan as “Simply the best of its kind in Australia”.
Requiring large musical forces, with thumping choruses, St George’s Cathedral Consort and the Orchestra of St George will join the soloists in bringing this oratorio to life.
Intriguingly, the part of Solomon was written for a female voice, and will be sung by Ileana Rinaldi, who has, in Joseph Nolan’s words, “A voice to die for”. He describes the third principal soloist, Paul McMahon, as “Not only a fine tenor, but a wonderful musician”.
Solomon has never been performed in Perth before - “a wonderful opportunity to present one of the mainstays of Handel’s repertoire,” said Joseph Nolan. “It is a production of major proportions - miss it at your peril!”
