In line with the Federal Government's announcement made on Sunday 22 March regarding the closure of entertainment venues due to COVID-19, it is with great sadness that the promoters of the Music on the Terrace 2020 Series at Government House have to postpone or cancel some of the events in this year's series. 

However there is some good news! Some events will still be proceeding as scheduled.

PERTH CONCERT HALL: FROM NOW UNTIL 30 APRIL 2020:

In line with the Federal Government’s announcement made on Sunday 22 March regarding all entertainment venues to be closed / restricted in trade due to COVID-19, the Perth Concert Hall will not be open for public access from midday Monday 23 March. This includes closure of the lift from the City of Perth Car Park to the Perth Concert Hall Foyer, and in person contact with the Box Office.

All events at the Perth Concert Hall between now and 30 April 2020 will either be cancelled or rescheduled till a later date.
We will be in contact with all ticket holders for events scheduled between now and 30 April directly.

"It probably comes as no surprise that in the interest of everybody's health and safety, we've had to postpone our upcoming tour around Australia, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We've been monitoring the situation daily, in what has been a challenging few weeks in Australia and around the world.

We are happy to announce that we've been able to reschedule our upcoming Aus tour, stay tuned for new dates coming soon! Playing music is what we love to do, and sharing it with you guys is even better!

"The Performing Arts Perspectives Steering Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel our event scheduled for Tue 31 March 2020 at the Perth Concert Hall. This is in response to State and Federal requests to cancel gatherings greater than 500 participants. The possibility of rescheduling this event is too difficult to anticipate at this time. Therefore, we have decided it is in everyone’s interest to cancel for 2020.

MUSICA VIVA AUSTRALIA RE: GOLDNER STRING QUARTET & PIERS LANE - CANCELLED

Following advice from the government on COVID-19, it is with regret that Musica Viva announces the cancellation of next month’s tour with Goldner String Quartet and Piers Lane.

‘Our primary concern is always for the well being of our patrons, artists and staff. We’re following government advice closely and have made the difficult decision to cancel a tour with our close friends Piers Lane and the Goldner String Quartet.’

‘This situation has profound implications for the whole performing arts sector,’ Sims adds. ‘If you’re in a position to continue supporting musicians, I urge you to consider doing so. We are working to find ways to minimise the impact on our artists, many of whom rely on income from our schools and concert tours.’

 WEST AUSTRALIAN OPERA STATEMENT RE: STAR NAVIGATOR - CANCELLED

“These are extremely difficult times as we cancel performances but we urgently need to do what we can to flatten the curve. The health, safety and wellbeing of our patrons and employees is our priority.

But please remember how much we will need you, our stakeholders and audiences, our funders, our donors, sponsors and partners when our theatres reopen. We need you to see our shows. Go to the opera. Go to the theatre. Go to our concert halls. Support your arts community when we all recover from this.

The arts need you … and you need the arts. People in the arts are driven by creativity. It’s our passion and our purpose. What we do matters because the arts matter and when we can’t do our job it hurts financially, artistically, emotionally.

If you are isolating at home please engage with the arts; listen to music, read a book, dance, watch a film, stream an opera. Art has the power to connect us in difficult times. Look at the Italians singing in quarantine from their apartment balconies and think of the power of music to nurture the soul; I’m reminded of Verdi’s quote “I adore art… when I am alone with my notes, my heart pounds and the tears stream from my eyes, and my emotion and my joys are too much to bear.”

PERTH CONCERT HALL - UPDATE ON RESPONSE TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COVID-19 ADVICE

The management of the Perth Concert Hall continue to be in close consultation with the Western Australian State Government health officials on the evolving Coronavirus situation.

In light of the Australian Government’s recommendation that all organised, non-essential gatherings of 500 people or more should not proceed, Perth Concert Hall will amend our operations on Monday 16 March 2020 to conform to this recommendation.

We note West Australian Symphony Orchestra’s decision to suspend all public concert performances until the end of April and look forward to their return in May. An up to date schedule of events at Perth Concert Hall can be found here: https://perthconcerthall.com.au/events/

WASO STATEMENT: WASO CONCERT PERFORMANCES SUSPENDED UNTIL END OF APRIL

The health, safety and wellbeing of our patrons and employees is always our priority.

We continue to actively monitor and manage WASO’s response to the Coronavirus outbreak, engaging with relevant health authorities and making decisions guided by their advice. In light of the Australian Government’s recommendation on Friday that all organised, non-essential gatherings of 500 people or more should not proceed, and to play our role in limiting the opportunity for Coronavirus to spread in the community, we have decided that all upcoming WASO performances at Perth Concert Hall will be suspended until the end of April 2020.

Ticket holders will be contacted directly on what they can do to arrange exchanges to alternate events or refunds. For those patrons who cannot exchange tickets but would like to support our mission to touch souls and enrich lives through music, please consider donating part or all of the value of your tickets back to WASO so that we can let the music play on from May.

WASO relies on the financial support and generosity of the community to operate. We would like to thank the Federal and West Australian Governments, our corporate partners and patrons for their continuing support at this difficult time.

In light of the Australian Government’s recommendation that all organised, non-essential gatherings of 500 or more people should not proceed we have decided to cancel tonight’s performance Dances with Daphnis – Saturday 14 March, 7:30pm.
We do this in the interests of safety for patrons, staff and artists.

All ticket holders are able to arrange exchanges to alternate events or refunds and are being contacted directly.

Tonight's WASO performance will proceed as planned at 7.30pm tonight and tomorrow night.

The Australian Government’s recommended cancellation of all organised, non-essential gatherings of 500 or more people may come into effect on Monday 16 March and we are working with the WA State Government on the best region specific outcome. The safety of our staff, artists and patrons is always our priority.

Perth Concert Hall is open for business and we’re ready to return to the mainstage this week with rehearsals now underway.

In readiness for your concert experience this week please follow these healthy hygiene habits:

• Wash your hands regularly – for at least 20 seconds using soap & water or alcohol based gel.
• Cover your mouth/nose if you need to cough/sneeze – using a tissue or flexed elbow
• Stay at home is you are sick – please don’t attend concerts if you have flu-like symptoms. Call our box office ahead of time and we’ll be happy to exchange your tickets to another suitable performance.

The safety of our staff, artists, patrons and the general public is always our priority.

Perth Concert Hall is open for business as usual

The venue is operating normally and remains open to the public.

Following the ‘low risk’ COVID-19 event at Perth Concert Hall on Saturday night, venue management have been in close consultation with the Metropolitan Communicable Disease Control (under the Government of Western Australia, North Metropolitan Health Service).

The venue has been thoroughly cleaned based on the advice of the health authorities.

While we note Russell Brand’s decision to cancel his event this evening, all other events are proceeding as normal including all of WASO’s 2020 concerts in the coming weeks.

Notification from the MCDC

8 March 2020

On Sunday 8 March we received notification from the Metropolitan Communicable Disease Control (under the Government of Western Australia, North Metropolitan Health Service) that one patron attending WASO’s Absolute Beethoven - Saturday 7 March at Perth Concert Hall has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

The authorities have informed us that this is a “low-risk” case for other patrons and staff. We have provided advice to all attendees, artists, contractors and staff at the concert on what they should do if they develop symptoms.

Our thoughts are with the patron and their family as they work through this difficult time. The safety of our staff, artists and patrons is always our priority and we are working closely with the MCDC to provide support to all of our patrons, people and clients. 

At this time we anticipate that all future events at Perth Concert Hall will proceed as scheduled.
