This past weekend, our friends at the West Australian Symphony Orchestra unveiled their fantastic 2024 season and we couldn’t be more excited! A classical music lover’s dream, the new season is full of bold, iconic masterworks brought to life by world class soloists and conductors from around the globe. Sprinkled between beloved classics will be some sensational new works, including world premieres from some of Australia’s finest composers.
2024 will see our State Orchestra perform over 20 concerts at Perth Concert Hall, plus some performances at Riverside Theatre, Winthrop Hall and more. There is so much to look forward to, so to help you get started, we’ve rounded up our top concert picks for next year:

Beethoven 9
Friday 3 & Saturday 4 May, 7:30pm
To listen to a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 (best known for its powerful choral finale “Ode to Joy”) is to enjoy a profound musical experience. One of the greatest of all symphonies, it continues to inspire with its uplifting message of hope and unity.
The Music of Hans Zimmer
Friday 10 & Saturday 11 May, 7:30pm
Experience some of the greatest modern film music as WASO and conductor Nicholas Buc pay tribute to one of the most influential film composers of all time: Hans Zimmer. Hosted by popular podcasters from the Art of the Score, Dan Golding and Andrew Pogson, this special concert event is not to be missed.
Ring Cycle
Friday 21 & Saturday 22 June, 7:30pm
Iconic selections from Wagner’s legendary Ring cycle come thrillingly to life in the hands of celebrated Wagnerian, Asher Fisch. From the majestic Entrance of the Gods to the exhilarating Ride of the Valkyries, immerse yourself in this mythical odyssey that stirs the imagination.
Grieg’s Piano Concerto
Friday 28 & Saturday 29 June, 7:30pm
Dalia Stasevska is one of the world’s most in-demand conductors, and she makes her much-anticipated WASO debut with a concert of Nordic masterpieces, including Grieg's beloved Piano Concerto. Acclaimed at its premiere, it established Grieg’s reputation as the musical voice of his nation.
Eroica
Friday 5 & Saturday 6 July, 7:30pm
Beethoven’s Third Symphony stands as the ultimate testament to human resilience, ambition and inventiveness. A triumph of artistic will over adversity, it redefined the symphony itself, and its heroic narrative and raw power changed music forever.

Mahler 8
Friday 13 & Saturday 14 September, 7:30pm
A work of imaginative genius, Mahler’s monumental Symphony is a joyous celebration of the creative spirit and an uplifting, exultant testament to eternal love and our shared humanity. Performed for the first time in Western Australia, this astonishing sonic spectacle is a once-in-a-generation concert experience.
