Freo psych-rockers Pond join Pavement’s 2023 Australian tour

Thrilling their fans down under, the iconic American indie rock band Pavement will tour Australia for the first time in over a decade this summer. With five era-defining albums under their belt, Pavement is one of the most beloved and influential bands to emerge from the American underground in the past 30 years.

Earlier this year, Pavement made their long-awaited live return on stage at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound, more than 10 years since they last reunited.

Last week, the band announced a killer line-up of Australian acts who will support them during their upcoming tour. Five bands will join Pavement, with a different one performing in each state. In Perth, the support act will be local legends Pond, a psychedelic rock band known for their infectiously groovy, synth-heavy sound.

Currently on tour in North America, Pond has been described by Scenestr as “the most exciting band in Australia and beyond”. The band has released nine studio albums since their formation in 2008, including their most recent album 9 which earned a deluxe re-issue in mid-2022.

Pond is closely affiliated with Tame Impala, another prolific psychedelic Perth music project led by multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker. Pond and Tame Impala have shared multiple members and collaborators, including Pond frontman Nick Allbrook who contributed to Tame Impala from 2009 to 2013, and Jay Watson who is currently a full-time member of both bands.

In addition to their upcoming show with Pavement, Pond has toured with other indie and psych-rock giants such as Arctic Monkeys, MGMT and The Flaming Lips. They have also wowed international crowds at premiere festivals including Coachella, Glastonbury, Primavera and more.

With two stellar bands on the bill, this concert is not to be missed!
