Halloween at the Hall

Spooky season is here! From horror movies to costume parties to trick-or-treating, there’s a lot to love about Halloween – but here at the Hall, our favourite thing is the music.

To help get us in the spirit, we asked our staff for their all-time favourite spooky songs and they did not disappoint. Check out some of their picks below or listen to our full ‘Halloween at the Hall 2021’ playlist on Spotify!

Thriller by Michael Jackson

“For me it’s Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, which continues to be a hit, even after 38 years! For me it’s the quintessential mixture of music, dance and horror and a great way to celebrate Halloween!”
– Lorraine Rice (Deputy General Manager)

Spell on You from Hocus Pocus (1993) by Bette Midler

“It’s my favourite because it reminds me of my childhood and the film that I loved watching on Halloween with my siblings growing up. It’s an iconic song that I’ve heard in other films, but it always brings me back to this time and this film in the 90s.”
– Dharshini “Dee” Murugiah (Marketing Campaign Specialist)

Spooky by Classics IV

“Love the Classics IV version and the eerie whistling sound effect used. You can’t help but want to move to this song. It’s edgy, cool and super groovy. Has a lot of sax and sass!”
–
Penelope Briffa (Events Manager)

Main Title from Beetlejuice (1988) by Danny Elfman

“Danny Elfman is the king of Halloween movie soundtracks. Not only are they iconic, but they bring out the mischievousness of Halloween.”
– Melissa Savio (Lighting Technician)

Bela Lugosi’s Dead by Bauhaus

“The original goth song!”
– Brendon Ellmer (General Manager)

Zombie by The Cranberries

"Zombie came out in 1994 when I was a new mum so I was probably a bit of a zombie myself!!"
– Josie Aitchison (Ticketing Client Account Manager)

Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns

“It was used in one of the early Disney adaptations of Hansel and Gretel and that whole movie scared the life out of me as a youngster!!!!”
–
Lorraine Tracey (Receptionist and Administrative Assistant)

Opening Title from Sweeney Todd (2007) by Stephen Sondheim

“Sondheim is the master of musical theatre, and Sweeney Todd is his gothic horror masterpiece. The opening title/overture to the 2007 film version brilliantly combines all of the dramatic themes, including the ominous Dies Irae, to set the stage for the deliciously nightmarish tale to come.”
Samuel Herriman (Customer Service and Sales Representative)

I Got 5 On It  Tethered Mix from Us (2019) by Luniz, Michael Marshall and Michael Abels

“This remix of Luniz’s ‘I Got 5 On It’ appeared in one of my favourite horror movies, Jordan Peele’s Us. It's so different to your typical horror movie theme but it’s undeniably creepy and it fits the movie perfectly. Even the original song will always sound eerie to me now!"
 Kelsey Tang (Marketing Assistant)
