This program of classic gems by Mozart and Beethoven is offset with a stunning new concerto for violin and harpsichord by Australian jazz legend Joe Chindamo. Beethoven’s powerful and dramatic 2nd symphony will create an uplifting conclusion to this concert which opens with Mozart’s beautiful Serenade for Winds. The UWA Symphony Orchestra makes a welcome return to Government House Ballroom after its sell out concert last year.
Paul O'Neill in Concert | Sunday 28 May, 4PM
Presented in association with West Australian Opera
Internationally renowned tenor, Paul O’Neill, is one of Western Australia’s finest musical exports. After graduating from the WA Academy of Performing Arts, Paul studied in London and Cardiff before moving to Germany where he has performed with the Staatsoper Berlin. Paul returns to Perth to take the lead role in WA Opera’s production of Tosca. For this much anticipated Ballroom debut recital he will present a popular selection of songs with pianist Mark Coughlan.
Behzod Abduraimov | Sunday 9 July, 4PM
Zenith Musics Piano Recital
Behzod Abduraimov is a brilliant young pianist from Uzbekistan who is developing a stellar international career. Although only 26 years old, he has already appeared as soloist with many distinguished orchestras and conductors and has performed at the BBC Proms and in Carnegie Hall. Behzod will present his first solo recital in Perth for Music on the Terrace, performing music by Bach/Busoni, Schubert, Liszt and Prokofiev. This promises to be an exhilarating concert.
Baroque Beauties featuring Rachelle Durkin | Sunday 20 August, 4PM
Rachelle Durkin’s concerts are always exciting and captivating events. We are thrilled to welcome her back to the Ballroom for this special concert of baroque music for strings and voice. The program will include works by Handel, Vivaldi and Bach. Presented in association with the UWA String Orchestra and Vocal Consort.
Rising Stars | Sunday 10 September, 4PM
Our annual Rising Stars concert features some of Western Australia’s best young musical talent. This year we will be featuring the outstanding choirs from Churchlands Senior High School as well as a range of brilliant young soloists. The prize-winning String Quartet from St Georges College will return to perform with young star pianist William Hu. This promises to be another exciting showcase of our musical stars of the future.
Violin Xtreme with Alexandre Da Costa | Sunday 1 October, 4PM
After his highly acclaimed performance last year of the complete Brahms sonatas for violin and piano, Alexandre returns with a stunning program which he describes as ‘the Olympic Games for the violin’. Showcasing the instrument’s most popular repertoire, this is a chance to hear one of the world’s finest virtuosos in full flight on a stunning Stradivarius violin. Supporting Alexandre from the piano will be Anna Sleptsova.
