Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique is a thrilling work inspired by a fever-dream of unrequited romantic love. With its surging, volcanic melodies and brilliant orchestral colours, Berlioz’s masterpiece revolutionised music and is still one of the most exhilarating pieces ever written. One of WASO’s favourite guest artists, German cellist Alban Gerhardt, makes a welcome return to perform Edouard Lalo’s fiery, Spanish-influenced Cello Concerto.
